Spahn & Rose Charitable Foundation Community Day Celebrates Local Charities

Toss a stone in a pond and you’ll see ripples flow outward across the whole body of water. Charitable giving has that same effect: One donation can lead to a wave of good deeds. That spirit was celebrated during the Spahn & Rose Charitable Foundation’s Community Day on December 22.

This past year, the Spahn & Rose Charitable Foundation donated $175,000 to 72 organizations across the communities Spahn & Rose serves. Established in 1950, the Foundation supports programs that provide services for higher education, healthy communities and at-risk youth.

“At every location, Spahn & Rose employees exemplify our Core Values,” says Dave Davis, CEO of Spahn & Rose. “We are a proud member of the communities we serve and believe in giving back through donations and volunteer work.”

This year 72 charities received support from the Spahn & Rose Charitable Foundation. Here’s how five recipients have made a difference in their communities:

Iowa College Foundation

Offering students in Iowa the opportunity for an affordable, high-quality education by securing financial resources for its member private colleges and universities, the Iowa College Foundation is based in Des Moines. The Iowa College Foundation is a longtime beneficiary of the Spahn & Rose Charitable Foundation, with 70 years of donations.

United Way of Walworth County, Wisconsin

Serving Walworth County, the home of Spahn & Rose’s Dunn Lumber location in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, this United Way chapter provides financial assistance to more than 45 agencies, including the 211 emergency-resource helpline and SingleCare, which provides savings on prescription medications to county residents. The United Way of Walworth County also funds food pantries and shelters.

Crescent Community Health—Spahn & Rose Fitness Center

This Dubuque, Iowa–based nonprofit provides access to medical care, wellness services and dental care. Focusing on primary care, Crescent Community Health [LINK: https://crescentchc.org/] provides services to those of any age, with or without insurance. With the Spahn & Rose Charitable Foundation, Crescent Community Health opened the Spahn & Rose Fitness Center in 2021, and the Foundation continues to support the center’s mission.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Started in Idaho, this nonprofit has since expanded across the country. It coordinates volunteers to build, assemble and deliver top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. Sleep in Heavenly Peace estimates that about 3 percent of kids in the U.S. don’t have a bed, so its mission is to ensure children have adequate bedding.

Leader Valley Foundation

A business-education partnership, Leader Valley helps students in Iowa’s Cedar Valley develop leadership skills. Within 17 schools in Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Waverly, Leader Valley has implemented “Leader in Me,” a talent-development initiative that enables students to build the skills necessary for personal and professional success. Overall, the program provides resources for 6,554 students and 842 educators.
