Whether he’s helping a customer with a rush order or showcasing new materials to contractors and builders, Greg Couch, General Manager of Metro Building Products in Marietta, Georgia, values the ever-changing daily challenges and loves helping customers find the best deals on top-quality building materials.
Spahn & Rose acquired Metro Building Products in August 2021, an acquisition that united two successful longtime lumber and building-material companies.
Couch has been with Metro Building Products for more than 18 years. Founded in 1991, the company serves professional builders, remodelers and homeowners in Atlanta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, Sandy Springs, Vinings and several other communities throughout Cobb and Fulton Counties in northwest Georgia. Metro specializes in high-quality building materials including cedar, Douglas fir timbers, decking, cedar shakes, Big Green Egg grills and railings.
We sat down with Couch to talk about his role as General Manager, his favorite thing about his job and what he does in his spare time.
What should everyone know about Metro Building Products?
We’re different because we’re more concentrated on outdoor living spaces. We’re more specialized in different areas, such as new custom decks. We really are the place to go for decking.
What’s your favorite thing about your job?
The variety. It’s not mundane, nor the same thing every day. I do different things every day. It really makes the day move faster.
What’s a recent example of a memorable customer project?
At Metro, we pride ourselves on being able to get materials to the customer when they need them. One recent customer had a hard deadline to get materials to start a large home deck project. We had short notification and had to juggle a couple different vendors to get all the materials they needed. We ended up getting that job done in a very short time. For me, it’s all about building relationships with customers so we’ll see them again down the road. If we go the extra mile for them, they’ll keep coming back for other projects.
What do you do for fun in your spare time?
I follow sports teams, and the [Atlanta] Braves are right up the street from us. Everyone at Metro talks about how the Braves are doing or what’s going on in SEC football. I follow the Braves and [the University of] Georgia football. I also like stock car racing. I love the competitiveness of it and usually go to a couple races a year.
